A TFR (Temporary Flight Restriction) is a restriction issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) that limits air travel in a designated area due to a hazardous condition, special event, or security concern.
There are different types of TFRs:
– Presidential TFRs temporarily limit air travel in specific areas to ensure the president’s safety.
– Emergency TFRs protect people and property in the event of a natural disaster or other emergency.
– NOTAM TFRs (Notice to Airmen) define restricted airspace for various reasons, such as airport runway maintenance, airshows, or military exercises.
Depending on the TFR, various aspects of air travel may be impacted, including flight routes, timing, and congestion at Fixed-Base Operators (FBOs). Delays, diversions, and cancellations are possible. If flying privately into an airport within a TFR, guests must first clear security at a designated gateway airport before proceeding.
At Tradewind Aviation, we closely monitor TFRs in our service areas and have extensive experience navigating these restrictions. If your trip is affected, our team will proactively reach out with solutions to ensure a seamless travel experience. Our dedicated service teams are available to assist with any questions.
Tradewind operates a fleet of Pilatus PC-12 turboprop aircraft. However, our team can assist in securing the best aircraft for your itinerary for trips that require a larger cabin or longer range. Any travel arranged by Tradewind using a different aircraft type is neither owned nor operated by Tradewind.
When booking a trip that is out of the Tradewind-operated fleet, we will only book with ARGUS Gold or Platinum safety-rated operators. Additionally, Tradewind will only book flights with operators that mirror our safety policy of flying with two pilots. For more information, please contact our reservations team.
Scheduled flights operate on a predetermined schedule and are sold by the single seat. Private charters operate at your desired time and on your route.
An empty leg is a flight that is scheduled to fly without any passengers to a pre-defined location in order to reposition or return an aircraft for another trip. Empty legs can also be referred to as “dead-heads,” “repositions,” or “ferry flights.”
Members of our Goodspeed Card Program have the option of applying their account credit towards trips booked outside of the Tradewind fleet.
